Shape, texture, filler, profile… there are many, many breast implant options. You could go round, smooth, filled with saline and more projection than average. Or teardrop-shaped and filled with silicone. Whatever the fill, breast implants have filled our patients with confidence!
Your choices and breast implant options are often limited by body type, but there will be an implant that matches your goals and your anatomy. A consultation with Dr. Grewal will identify that implant and our Vectra 3D imaging system will allow you to see a simulation of your results. For your breast augmentation research, start with the type of filler. The choice between saline and silicone fill will determine your other options, including shape, texture and profile.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline is essentially salt water, and there are many advantages to using water as filler for a breast implant. Foremost, the size of the incision required to insert the breast implant can be much smaller, as saline implants can be filled to size after insertion.
The periareolar technique, a small incision on the nipple border, makes use of saline’s advantages. The incision is small, and very well hidden in the border. The local access to the underlying breast tissue allows for precise positioning.
Saline breast implants are also the only type of implant available to women between the ages of 18 and 22.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants are now the popular choice. Many patients say they feel more like natural tissue when placed, and they act more like natural tissue when the body is in motion.
Silicone implants are FDA approved – years of research has shown that silicone implants are safe. During the 90s, silicone breast implants were essentially banned because of a scare that linked them with breast cancer. Subsequent studies found no connection.
The traditional incision used to place a silicone implant follows the inframammary fold. Silicone breast implants are filled before placement, requiring a longer incision to insert them. While the length of the incision may be longer than periareolar incision, the location allows the most direct access for precise placement.
NaturalPlus Breast AugmentationSM
Dr. Grewal’s technique for natural looking volume enhancement is combination breast implant and fat transfer augmentation. The use of your own fat allows Dr. Grewal to sculpt smoother transitions between your body and the implant for a more natural appearance. The use of fat transfer in a breast augmentation can also create fuller upper-breast volume – this is tough to do with a breast implant alone. More upper-breast volume also means more cleavage!
